Derby

A vibrant, cosmopolitan city, offering the ideal location for any event. Derby is proud of its developing retail and creative industries offering, attracting many visitors each week to the city.

Derby is undergoing a dramatic transformation to give the city centre a new look. A major program which is in development at the moment is the Derby Riverlights Project, which will be an impressive complex at the river area in the heart of the city. The centre will include several hotels and dining opportunities and even a casino! Part of this project is the QUAD, a large Visual Arts and Media Centre what will be an inspiring place to live and relax.

In the fall of 2007 the modern and luxury shopping centre Westfield has been opened. This great investment has changed the look of the heart of Derby. Westfield gives a complete package for a day of shopping, with a mix of fashion, lifestyle, food and leisure. The multifunctional centre has 150 shops and several dining-opportunities. Literally on top of that you will find the first Cinema de Lux in Britain, offering a whole new experience on a night out.

As the home of businesses such as Rolls-Royce, Bombardier and Egg, the city of Derby is fast becoming recognised as an international place to do business. With an excellent transport infrastructure, situated 15 minutes from the M1, 20 minutes from East midlands Airport, and with a mainline railway station in the city centre, you would have to agree Derby is a hassle-free destination and a perfect choice!

Derby offers the best of both worlds. Cosmopolitan city-life right on the doorstep of the glorious, breathtaking countryside of the Peak District.
Derby is one of only 5 cities in the UK with a UNESCO World Heritage site in its city centre. The Silk Mill is proof of the late 18th century invention of Sir Richard Arkwright's water powered cotton mills.

The Peak District

A unique area of immense variety and importance, a place of rich wildlife and unique atmosphere, you could not wish for a more beautiful setting for your event. The Peak District is Britain's first national park, and is one of the most visited parks in the world.

The Peak District has a lot of faces, if you want to relax and enjoy the view, or if you want to have the intense feeling of wildness and action, all different conditions can be applied. If it is a stunning backdrop you are looking for, Matlock Bath is the home of breathtaking views of the Derwent Valley.

Steeped in history, towns such as Bakewell and Ashbourne have a traditional ambience whilst remaining accessible through the excellent road links. The spa town of Buxton sits close to the National Park allowing easy access to this beautiful region- ideal for team building, small conferences and corporate meetings.

Amber Valley & Historic Border Country

In the east of Derbyshire you find the Amber Valley. Chesterfield and its surroundings give a unique blend of town and country, both with beautiful scenery reflecting the history and heritage of the area.

Chesterfield boast the famous Crooked Spire which is recognisable from far around the area. The city, situated only a few miles from the M1, is a perfect location for those busy corporate organisations requiring an easily accessible meeting destination.

The National Forest

The very southern tip of Derbyshire is part of the nation's boldest environmental project: the National Forest! It is hard to believe that you can find a surrounding like this, just a stone's throw from the M1 and the East Midlands Airport as we take in the rolling hills and picturesque villages.

Recognised by inward investors, this is a rapidly growing part of the country attracting a number of high profile international businesses into the area.

Transport

With excellent air, road bus and rail links, Derbyshire is conveniently situated at the heart of the UK.

More than 80% of Britain's population is within only two hours drive from Derbyshire. The M1 motorway runs along the county from junction 24 - 31 and the M6 is only a short distance away via the connecting A50 and A38 roads.

There are three major airports within easy reach of Derbyshire. Manchester Airport is only 25 minutes from Buxton, Birmingham Airport only 38 minutes from Derby city and of course East Midlands Airport is right on our border. The SkyLink provides links from East Midlands Airport to Derby Railway Station and the city centre every half hour during the day and hourly at other times, 7 days a week.

If you would prefer to travel by train, Derbyshire's centrality makes it easily accessible from many major cities with direct rail links from London, Manchester, Leeds, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh and many other UK towns and cities. From Derby direct to London St. Pancras is less then 2 hours. This international station in London is the gateway to Europe with easy connections to a range of capital cities on the continent. Derbyshire is in easy and quick connection with Europe. To complete your journey, taxis run consistently from right outside the rail station across the city and county.

National Express services run coaches from Birmingham, Cardiff, Leeds, London and many other UK towns and cities directly into Derby City Centre and once in Derbyshire, bus services run regular routes right across the county.
